How Experts Repair Car Windshield

Windshield leaks are a pain, but they’re fixable and preventable in most cases. If you’ve got a leaky windshield, don’t worry—it’s not that hard to repair with the right know-how and the right materials. Here’s how professionals get it done as fast as possible.

Even if you’re taking excellent care of your car, glass repair can happen to the best of us. If you find yourself in this situation, you just need to take your car to the professionals. Even if you have some time and supplies on hand, don’t think that you can do it yourself and save some money as you might cause more damage. Here’s how to patch a leaky windshield with car glass sealant or windshield sealant.

Remove the leaky windshield

A professional will start by removing the old, leaky windshield. They’ll need a new windshield sealant to do this.

Clean the area before adding the car glass sealant

They will proceed by cleaning the area around the leak with a glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth. They will ensure to remove any dirt, dust, or debris that could prevent the windshield sealant from adhering to the glass. Next, they will use a hairdryer or heat gun to warm up the area around the leak. This will help soften the old rubber sealant for car windows and make it easier to remove. Once the old car glass sealant is removed, they will carefully clean off any residual material using glass cleaner and paper towels. After all of the residue has been cleaned off, they can apply a new car glass sealant to avoid future leaks. The proper application of rubber sealant for car windows is very important.

Apply the adhesive

Professionals will clean the surface of the frame with alcohol before they apply the adhesive. They will start by peeling off one end of the protective packing and then aligning the center of the adhesive side on top of where they want it placed. Next, they will start rolling outwards from that point until all the air bubbles are eliminated. Finally, they will use an ice pick or any other pointed object to poke any remaining air bubbles towards a corner before they dry up and become impossible to remove.

Apply the windshield

The windshield is applied onto the adhesive to make sure that it stays in place. At AIS Windshield Experts, we only use high-quality AIS glass as it offers the best visibility to drivers.
